“Furthermore, good man! If the mind abides in concentration, it can know the characteristics of arising and ceasing phenomena in the world, and it can also know the characteristics of unarisen and unceasing phenomena beyond the world. Even when the Tathāgata attained awakening, he still delighted in concentration, how much more so ordinary worldlings? One who has dhyāna-concentration is like someone seeing lightning at night: he immediately gains insight into the Path, shatters innumerable billions of blazing evils, and goes on to accomplish sarvākārajñatā.” With skillful means and various causes and parables, one extensively praises calming, directly according with suchness. This is called “calming the mind by pacifying it in accordance with the supreme truth.”
