If that person says, “When I contemplate, I do not attain awakening,” one should explain to him calming: “Calming is directly embodying the true: illuminating yet constantly quiescent; calming is directly according with conditions: quiescent yet constantly illuminating; calming is directly non-calming calming: double-negating and double-illuminating. Calming is the mother of the Buddhas, calming is the father of the Buddhas, and it is both father and mother. Calming is the teacher of the Buddhas, the body of the Buddhas, the eye of the Buddhas, the major and minor marks of the Buddhas, the treasury of the Buddhas, and the dwelling place of the Buddhas. What is it not complete with? What does it not eliminate?” With skillful means and various causes and parables, one extensively praises calming. This is “calming the mind by pacifying it in accordance with the supreme truth.”
