5.18

次第者有三義，謂：法、修、發。法者，次第淺深法也。修者，先世已曾研習次第，或此世次第修也。發者，依次修而次發也。

Sequential has three meanings: phenomena, cultivation, and arising. Phenomena refers to the sequential phenomena of shallow and deep. Cultivation refers to having already practiced them sequentially in past lifetimes, or cultivating them sequentially in this lifetime. Arising refers to their arising sequentially in accordance with sequential cultivation.
