重數者：九地則有八十一品。初一品有三假，有四句止觀；三假合十二句。一句即有信解、見得，各各用四悉檀；信、法各有八合，則十六番。此信、法互有轉義，復為十六；合前則有三十二句。一句既三十二句，十二句三假，合有十二句，則有三百八十四句。一一句復有性、相二空，則合有七百六十八句；足前合為一千一百五十二句。含根本，合為一千一百六十四句。一品如此，九品合有一萬四百七十六句。欲界九品如此，三界九品合有九萬四千二百八十四句。所破如此，能破亦然；能、所合有十八萬八千五百六十八句。自行如此，化他亦然；合有二十七萬七千一百三十六句止觀。

Regarding the number of layers: in the nine stages there are eighty-one grades. The initial grade has the three provisionalities, which possess the four propositions of calming and contemplation; the three provisionalities make twelve propositions in total. Each proposition contains liberation through faith and attainment through view, each employing the four siddhāntas; faith and Dharma each have eight combinations, thus sixteen turns. Since faith and Dharma mutually turn into each other, there are another sixteen; together with the former, there are thirty-two propositions. Since one proposition has thirty-two propositions, twelve propositions of the three provisionalities make three hundred and eighty-four propositions. Each proposition again has the two emptinesses of nature and characteristics, thus making seven hundred and sixty-eight propositions; adding the former, they make one thousand one hundred and fifty-two propositions. Including the roots, they make one thousand one hundred and sixty-four propositions in total. This is how it is for one grade; the nine grades make ten thousand four hundred and seventy-six propositions in total. As it is for the nine grades of the desire realm, so for the nine grades across the three realms there are ninety-four thousand two hundred and eighty-four propositions in total. As it is with what is refuted, so it is with what refutes; what is refuted and what refutes together make one hundred and eighty-eight thousand five hundred and sixty-eight propositions. As it is with one's own practice, so it is with converting others; together they make two hundred and seventy-seven thousand one hundred and thirty-six propositions of calming and contemplation.
