Mastering such methods of worldly wisdom to the utmost, with none able to surpass or defeat him, he causes all to submit in faith and take him as master and guide. If a bodhisattva emerging into the provisional wishes to know these dharmas, he should diligently cultivate them separately within the contemplation of penetrating luminosity. With the vow of great compassion and vigor without indolence, through the empowered aid of all Buddhas, he suddenly comprehends them clearly, forever free of doubt or stagnation regarding mundane Dharma-medicines. Yet mundane Dharma-medicines are not an ultimate cure; though one bends one's pace and moves one's feet almost to the end of the three realms of existence, one will still fall back. Therefore it is said: 'Although ordinary persons cultivate contaminated dhyāna, their mind's practice is punctured like a leaky vessel; though born in [the heaven of] neither-perception-nor-non-perception, they will still fall back, like a dyed garment in the rain whose colors peel and fade.' Though a worldly physician cures [a disease], once cured it recurs—this is what is meant.
