Inferior faculties have four meanings: first, their aspirations and desires are narrow and base; second, their power of practice is faint and weak; third, their obstacles from the five turbidities are heavy; fourth, their wisdom is extremely dull. Because they take pleasure in small teachings, one expounds the dharma of arising and perishing; because their power of practice is faint and weak, they cultivate the six perfections of phenomena; because their obstacles from the five turbidities are heavy, they diligently and bitterly apply antidotes; because their wisdom is dull, severing lust, anger, and delusion is called vimokṣa. This is dispensing the medicine of dharmas arisen from causes and conditions to cure the illness of inferior faculties.
