攝陀羅尼者：持諸善法，如完器盛水；遮諸惡法，如棘援防果。即是四種道品中四正勤，勤遮二惡，勤生二善。故《十住毘婆沙》偈云：
Subsuming dhāraṇī: Retaining all wholesome dharmas is like an intact vessel holding water; checking all unwholesome dharmas is like a thorny hedge protecting fruit. This is precisely the four right exertions in the four kinds of the factors of the path: striving to check the two unwholesome states and striving to generate the two wholesome states. Thus the verse in the Daśabhūmika-vibhāṣā states:
