通教初得無生忍，至六地得菩提道如前；八地道觀雙流，是不動三昧，破天子魔。兩處聲聞，止破三魔。笈多恒為所惱，後得神通，伏而非破（云云）。

In the shared teaching, one initially attains the endurance of the non-arising of dharmas, up to the sixth stage where one attains the path of bodhi as before; on the eighth stage, the path and contemplation flow together—this is the unshakeable samādhi, breaking the devaputra-māra. In both places, the śrāvakas merely break three māras. Upagupta was constantly vexed by [Māra]; later he attained supernatural powers and subdued him, but did not break him (and so on).
