別教十住已破界內四魔；登地分得菩提道破煩惱魔；分得法身破陰魔；分得赤色三昧破天子魔。若《瓔珞》云：「等覺，三魔已盡，唯一分死魔在。」三不應前盡，一不應獨餘，此乃別教方便說耳。

In the distinctive teaching, the ten abodes already break the four māras within the triple realm; ascending the stages, one partially attains the path of bodhi to break the affliction-māra; one partially attains the dharmakāya to break the aggregate-māra; and one partially attains the red-colored samādhi to break the devaputra-māra. As the Yingluo [jing] says: 'At virtual enlightenment, the three māras are already exhausted, and only one portion of the death-māra remains.' That three should not be exhausted beforehand while one remains alone is merely an expedient explanation of the distinctive teaching.
