If there is a white film over the liver causing the eyes to ache, red veins spreading into a white cataract, or the eyeball ruptures, or sores form above and below, or tears flow upon encountering wind and cold, or there is itching, stinging pain, sunken pupils, and frequent anger at affairs, this is the lungs harming the liver and producing this disease; one may treat it with the breath 'he'. If there is faint heat in the heart, cold extremities, distress in the heart with little strength, dry and cracked lips and mouth, an abdominal mass below the navel, inability to keep down hot food, aversion to cold food, dizziness, distress, a propensity to sleep, frequent forgetfulness and swelling in the heart, dizziness, stammering speech, tightness in the back and shoulder blades, aching and distress in the four limbs, exhaustion of the heart and steaming of the body, heat resembling malaria, or the formation of abdominal masses or accumulations of fluid, seeing near but not far as if looking through cloth or silk, this is the kidneys harming the heart; one may treat it with the breaths 'chui' and 'hu'. If the lungs swell and the chest is congested, with pain below both flanks, pain in both shoulder blades as if carrying a heavy load, stiffness in the head and neck, coarse and heavy panting breath that only goes out and does not enter, sores over the whole body, itching in the throat as if worms were crawling, inability to swallow or vomit, sores in the throat, locked jaw, or fits of wind, pus and blood emerging from the nose, dark vision, pain in the bridge of the nose, polyps growing in the nose, breath blocked without distinguishing fragrance from foulness, this is the heart harming the lungs and forming disease; or it is formed by the clash of drinking cold water and eating hot food; one may treat it with the breath 'xu'. If the hundred vessels do not flow, every joint aches, the body swells, there is deafness, nasal congestion, lower back pain, stiffness in the back, fullness and swelling in the abdomen, upward rushing breath and congestion in the chest, heaviness in the four limbs, a dark and emaciated face, urgent pain and distress in the bladder, or dysuria, difficulty in the urinary tract, and cold legs and knees, this is the spleen harming the kidneys; also, the disease demon is like the Stove God, headless and faceless, suddenly coming to cover a person; one may treat it with the breath 'xi'. If on the body and face wind-itching creeps and prickles, with itching and distress all over the body, this is the liver harming the spleen; its complexion is obscure, or [the sensation is] like a child striking a trough, or like a whirlwind swirling round and round; one may treat it with the breath 'si'.
