Moreover, exhaling with the mouth through chui expels cold, while the nose slowly takes in warmth, entering calmly and gently without allowing any violent clash. In a single sitting, perform it seven times and then settle the mind; after settling the mind for a short while, use the vocalization again—this is the method of application. If ordinarily expelling impurities, once or twice is sufficient. Exhaling with the mouth through hu expels heat, and the nose draws in cool freshness. Exhaling with the mouth through xi dispels pain and eliminates wind, and the nose draws in peaceful harmony. When exhaling with the mouth through he to eliminate vexation, lower qì, and disperse phlegm, imagine that the upper portion of the chest phlegm exits with the mouth, and the lower portion flows down with the breath; therefore there is no need to tonify through the nose. Xu eliminates fullness and distension, while the nose takes in peaceful containment. Si eliminates fatigue, while the nose harmonizes and tonifies. Delicately exhale and inhale, not allowing any excess. If one can judiciously weigh and adjust additions and subtractions appropriately, not only can one treat one's own illnesses, but one can also rescue others.
