Furthermore, all Buddhas enter parinirvāṇa based on this contemplation. In terms of dull faculties, the cessation of ignorance up to the cessation of aging and death, where both active defilements and residual habits are exhausted, is the Tripiṭaka Buddha's nirvāṇa with remainder and without remainder; in terms of the contemplation of identity with emptiness, the cessation of ignorance up to the cessation of aging and death is the shared teaching Buddha's nirvāṇa with remainder and without remainder; in terms of the middle way contemplation of dependent origination as provisional designation, the cessation of ignorance up to the cessation of aging and death is the distinctive teaching Buddha's nirvāṇa of permanence, bliss, self, and purity; in terms of the twelve links of dependent origination where the three paths are identical to the three Buddha-natures and also the three nirvāṇas, nirvāṇa being called the dharmadhātu of all Buddhas, this is the perfect teaching [Vairo]cana Buddha's nirvāṇa of the four virtues. These are the four kinds of manifestations of nirvāṇa in the realm of shared dwelling, appearing in the Xiangfa jueyi jing. In the two realms of expedient means and true reward, the attainment of the Way, turning the Dharma wheel, and entering nirvāṇa should likewise be understood. This is called "the doctrinal meaning of the twelve links of dependent origination subsuming phenomena," and so forth.
