第一、持戒清淨。如經中說：「依因此戒，得生諸禪定，及滅苦智慧。」是故比丘應持戒清淨。然有三種行人持戒不同：
First, observing the precepts purely. As stated in the sūtra: "Relying on this precept, one can give rise to all dhyāna-concentrations and the wisdom that eradicates suffering." Therefore, a monk should observe the precepts purely. However, there are three kinds of practitioners whose observation of the precepts differs:
