三、魔羅惱亂者，是魔多作三種相來破行人：一、作違情事，即是作可畏五塵；二、作順情事，即是作可愛五塵令人心著；三、作非違非順事，即是作平品五塵動亂行者。

Third, the disturbances of Māra: this māra mostly produces three kinds of signs to come and ruin the practitioner: first, producing adverse situations, which means producing fearsome five sense objects; second, producing favorable situations, which means producing desirable five sense objects to cause the person's mind to become attached; third, producing neither-adverse-nor-favorable situations, which means producing neutral five sense objects to agitate the practitioner.
