Hearing of the four forms of birth, one also perceives that this meaning pertains to the five viscera. Why is this? The desire realm possesses the five faculties, the five faculties pertain to the five viscera, the five viscera pertain to the four great elements, and the four great elements correspond to the four forms of birth. All egg-born beings mostly have the nature of the wind element, because their bodies are able to rise lightly; all moisture-born beings mostly have the nature of the water element, because they are born in dependence on moisture; all womb-born beings mostly belong to the nature of the earth element, because their bodies are heavy and dull; all apparitionally born beings mostly belong to the nature of the fire element, because the body of fire suddenly exists where there was none, and also because it has radiance. Because the Tathāgata transforms the four forms of birth in the three realms, he expounded the four truths, twelve links of dependent origination, and six pāramitās. One should know that these three divine panaceas of Dharma medicines are all taught to counteract the five viscera, five faculties, and [five] aggregates of sentient beings. Why is this? As the Buddha expounded the meaning of the four truths in one mind, one should know that the truth of accumulation corresponds to the liver, because the cause belongs to the initial arising; the truth of suffering corresponds to the heart, because the fruit is fruition; the truth of the path corresponds to the lungs, because metal can sever; the truth of cessation corresponds to the kidneys, being the dharma of winter storage, where what has existed returns to nonexistence. The one mind has already corresponded to the spleen, because it opens up and unifies the four truths. Even up to the twelve links of dependent origination and six pāramitās, they may be understood by analogy with this.
