Sixth, experiencing prīti: this corresponds to countering and destroying the factor of prīti of the first dhyāna. In the fundamental dhyāna, the factor of prīti arises after vitarka and vicāra that are obscured and with defilement; lacking the illumination of contemplative wisdom, many afflictions arise, and therefore it should not be experienced. Now clarifying experiencing prīti: it arises within the factors of vitarka and vicāra of the purified dhyāna; because there is reflective contemplation that deconstructs and analyzes, penetrating the emptiness of the nature of vitarka and vicāra, one should know that the prīti arising from vitarka and vicāra is also empty. Then one does not attach to prīti and is free from faults, which is why it is called 'experiencing prīti.' Just as an arhat does not attach to any offerings and is therefore called 'worthy of offerings.' Furthermore, knowing and seeing according to reality, one attains true Dharma joy; therefore it is called 'experiencing prīti.'
