三、喜支。欣慶之心名為喜。行者初發禪時，乃有喜生，但分別未了，故喜心未成。若觀心分別所捨欲界之樂甚少，今獲得初禪利益甚多。如是思惟已，則歡喜無量，故名喜支。

Third, the factor of joy. A mind of rejoicing and celebration is named joy. When the practitioner first gives rise to dhyāna, joy indeed arises, but because discerning is not yet complete, the joyful mind is not yet perfected. When, with the discerning mind, one analyzes that the pleasure of the desire realm that was abandoned is very slight, while the benefits of the first dhyāna now obtained are exceedingly great, having reflected thus, one has immeasurable joy; therefore it is named the factor of joy.
