Second, concluding with the three truths from 'This is then' onward: the aforesaid three thousand of phenomena and principle all take the momentary mental dharma as the general. Because the mind is empty, all dharmas of principle and phenomena are empty, which is neither form nor mind; because the mind is provisional, all dharmas of principle and phenomena are provisional, which is both form and mind; because the mind is the middle, all dharmas of principle and phenomena are the middle, which is only form and only mind. Therefore the Fuxing states: 'All are due to inherence in principle, only after which phenomenal function exists. Now wishing to cultivate contemplation, one merely contemplates inherence in principle: all are negated, all are established, all are the Dharma realm, spontaneously gathering in what is manifested by the expedient and the real.' The statement 'This is truly due to this' means: precisely due to 'the form and mind of the mind' (principle), 'mind itself is called transformation' (phenomena), and 'arising of function from the entire essence' (the union of principle and phenomena), one can have once empty, all empty; once provisional, all provisional; once middle, all middle. Others, in interpreting this text, divide and match [the terms] mechanically, totally losing the grand meaning, and still do not allow matching them to the three truths, claiming that cultivating contemplation has not yet been discussed here. Even if contemplation has not yet been cultivated, what harm is there in establishing the truths? Moreover, this form and mind is originally the object of the truths. There are further those who mutually correlate them with the three truths claiming to have grasped the perfect meaning, but this is simply not worth discussing."
