第八僧名和合，柔忍故和，義讓故合。不得諍計高聲醜言動色，兩競者各罰三十拜對眾懺。不應對者不罰。身手互相加者，不問輕重皆不同止。不動手者不罰。

Eighth: A monk’s community is named 'harmony': through gentleness and forbearance there is harmony, and through righteous yielding there is concordance. There must be no quarreling, loud voices, ugly words, or angry expressions; if two persons dispute, each is penalized thirty prostrations of repentance before the assembly. The one who does not retort is not penalized. Those who inflict physical violence upon each other with hands or body, regardless of whether it is slight or severe, shall not dwell together [with the assembly]. The one who does not raise a hand is not penalized.
