且此玄觀心，乃是大師講時訓眾策修之語。當時既說，錄者豈敢違之。若《大經玄義》，是章安於大師滅後私製，既已結集，諸部玄義各有觀心一科，後代講者必合例知，故可影略。

Furthermore, contemplation of the mind in this *Xuanyi* was the Great Master's spoken instruction to admonish the assembly and urge practice while lecturing. Since it was spoken at that time, how could the recorder dare go against it? As for the *Xuanyi of the Great Sūtra*, it was composed privately by Zhang'an after the Great Master had passed away. Since it was compiled when the *xuanyi* of the various texts each already contained a section on contemplating the mind, later lecturers would certainly know this by analogy, and so it could be alluded to and omitted.
