予昨於詰難書內，立心佛眾生、依正諸法，隨緣則諸法皆事，不變則諸法皆理。故引《金錍》云：真如是萬法，由隨緣故；萬法是真如，由不變故。是知輒不可偏約理釋心、偏以事釋生佛諸法。

Yesterday, in my letter of challenge, I established that regarding the various dharmas of mind, Buddhas, sentient beings, dependent and proper [rewards]: when following conditions, the various dharmas are all phenomena; when unvarying, the various dharmas are all principle. Therefore, I cited the *Jinpi*: 'True suchness is the myriad dharmas, because it follows conditions; the myriad dharmas are true suchness, because it is unvarying.' From this we know that one must not recklessly explain the mind exclusively in terms of principle, nor explain the various dharmas of sentient beings and Buddhas exclusively in terms of phenomena.
