第一不得殺生，若自殺、教人殺，無慈悲心，非真菩薩。若有犯者，得波羅夷罪。汝等從今身至佛身，於其中間不得犯。能持否（答云能持。下去例此）？

"First: you must not kill living beings. If you kill them yourself or instruct others to kill them, you lack compassionate mercy and are not a true bodhisattva. If anyone violates this, they incur a pārājika offense. From your present bodies until the Buddha body, during the interim you must not violate it. Are you able to uphold it (answer: 'I am able to uphold it'. The rest follow this pattern)?"
