Identity in partial realization with the Buddha refers to the noble lineage of the ten grounds (realizing and entering the noble grounds) and the nature of equal enlightenment (one step away from Buddhahood). First, the ground of joy, called the stage of the path of seeing: through contemplation of the Middle Way, one sees the ultimate truth, opens the Buddha eye, and achieves the knowledge of all aspects. Journeying five hundred yojanas, one first enters the land of real reward and non-obstruction. Arriving for the first time at the jewel abode, one realizes non-retrogression of mindfulness, attains the path of effortless action, and according to the capacities and conditions that can be converted, can manifest as a Buddha in a hundred realms, accomplish the path through the eight aspects, and benefit sentient beings. Second, the ground of freedom from defilement; third, the ground of emitting light; fourth, the ground of blazing wisdom; fifth, the ground of difficult to conquer; sixth, the ground of direct presence; seventh, the ground of going far; eighth, the ground of immovability; ninth, the ground of good wisdom; tenth, the ground of the Dharma cloud. Each severs one grade of avidyā and realizes one portion of the Middle Way. Breaking yet another grade of avidyā, one enters the stage of equal enlightenment, also called the adamantine mind, also called the stage of one life remaining, also called the unexcelled person.
