Second, how does it lie in the condition? When that person committed transgressions, they arose relying on false discrimination and relying on sentient beings who are the karmic retributions of afflictions. Now, these ten recitations arise relying on supreme faith and relying on the name of Amitābha Tathāgata, which embodies true, pure, and immeasurable merits. For example, if someone is struck by a poisoned arrow that pierces the sinews and breaks the bone, if he hears the sound of the poison-dispelling medicine drum, the arrow immediately comes out and the poison is removed. Could one say, 'Because that arrow is deep and the poison fierce, hearing the sound of the drum cannot extract the arrow and remove the poison'? This is called lying in the condition.
