1.36

又如《彌陀經》說，若有男子女人，七日七夜及盡一生，一心專念阿彌陀佛願往生者，此人常得六方恒河沙等佛共來護念，故名護念經。護念經意者，亦不令諸惡鬼神得便，亦無橫病橫死橫有厄難，一切災障自然消散，除不至心。此亦是現生護念增上緣。

Furthermore, as stated in the Amitābha Sūtra, if there is a man or woman who, for seven days and seven nights, or up to the end of their life, single-mindedly and focusedly recollected Amitābha Buddha, vowing to be reborn there, this person will constantly have buddhas equal in number to the sands of the Ganges in the six directions together come to protect and maintain them; hence it is called the Sūtra of Protection and Mindful Maintenance. The meaning of the Sūtra of Protection and Mindful Maintenance is that it also does not let various evil ghosts and spirits have an advantage, nor are there untimely sicknesses, untimely deaths, or untimely adversities; all calamities and obstacles naturally disperse, unless one is insincere. This too is the predominant condition of protection and mindful maintenance in the present life.
