Furthermore, as the Amitābha Sūtra says: In each of the six directions there are Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, who all extend their tongues completely covering the three-thousandfold world and utter words of truth: Whether during the Buddha's presence in the world or after the Buddha's demise, all sin-creating pṛthagjanas who merely turn their minds to contemplate Amitābha Buddha and desire to be born in the Pure Land, spanning up to a hundred years, or down to seven days, one day, ten recitations, three recitations, or one recitation, when life is on the verge of ending, the Buddha together with the noble assembly will personally come to welcome them, and they will immediately attain rebirth. As stated above, the Buddhas of the six directions extend their tongues, definitively certifying for pṛthagjanas that their sins are extinguished and they attain rebirth. If they were not to attain rebirth relying on this testimony, once the Buddhas of the six directions extended their tongues out of their mouths, they would ultimately never return to their mouths and would naturally rot and disintegrate. This too is the adhipati-pratyaya of certifying rebirth.
