雲巖作鞋次，師近前曰：「就師乞眼睛，未審還得也無？」巖曰：「汝底與阿誰去也？」師曰：「良价無。」巖曰：「設有，汝向什麼處著？」師無語。巖曰：「乞眼睛底是眼否？」師曰：「非眼。」巖咄之。

While Yunyan was making shoes, the Master approached and said: 'I beg for eyes from the master; I wonder if I may have them or not?' Yunyan said: 'To whom did yours go?' The Master said: 'Liangjie has none.' Yunyan said: 'Even if you had them, where would you place them?' The Master was silent. Yunyan said: 'Is the one begging for eyes an eye?' The Master said: 'It is not an eye.' Yunyan shouted at him.
