師辭雲巖，巖曰：「甚麼處去？」師曰：「雖離和尚，未卜所止。」曰：「莫湖南去？」師曰：「無。」曰：「莫歸鄉去？」師曰：「無。」曰：「早晚却回？」師曰：「待和尚有住處即來。」曰：「自此一別難得相見。」師曰：「難得不相見。」

The Master took leave of Yunyan. Yunyan said: 'Where are you going?' The Master said: 'Although I am leaving the Upādhyāya, I have not determined where to stay.' Yunyan said: 'Are you not going to Hunan?' The Master said: 'No.' Yunyan said: 'Are you not returning to your hometown?' The Master said: 'No.' Yunyan said: 'When will you return?' The Master said: 'I will return as soon as the Upādhyāya has a dwelling place.' Yunyan said: 'From this parting on, it will be hard to see each other.' The Master said: 'It will be hard not to see each other.'
