院主遊石室回，雲巖問曰：「汝去到石室裏許，為甚麼便回？」主無語。師代曰：「彼中已有人占了也。」巖曰：「汝更去作麼？」師曰：「不可人情斷絕去也。」

The director of the monastery returned from visiting the stone chambers. Yunyan asked: 'You went all the way inside the stone chambers; why did you turn right back?' The director was silent. The Master spoke in his place: 'Someone had already occupied it.' Yunyan said: 'Why did you go again?' The Master said: 'Human relations must not be cut off.'
