雲巖示眾云：「有箇人家兒子，問著無有道不得底。」師出問云：「他屋裏，有多少典籍？」雲巖云：「一字也無。」師云：「爭得恁麼多知？」雲巖云：「日夜不曾眠。」師云：「問一段事，還得否？」雲巖云：「道得却不道。」

Yunyan instructed the assembly, saying, "There is the son of a certain family; when asked, there is nothing he cannot say." The Master came forward and asked, "In his house, how many texts and records are there?" Yunyan said, "Not even a single word." The Master asked, "How does he have so much knowledge?" Yunyan said, "Day and night he has never slept." The Master said, "May I ask about a certain matter or not?" Yunyan said, "He can speak of it, yet does not speak."
