有一座主辭南泉，泉問：「什麼處去？」對云：「山下去。」泉曰：「第一不得謗王老師。」對云：「爭敢謗和尚。」泉噴水曰：「多少？」座主便出去，師曰：「賴也。」

A lecturer monk took leave of Nanquan. Nanquan asked, "Where are you going?" He replied, "Down the mountain." Nanquan said, "Above all, do not slander Old Teacher Wang." He replied, "How would I dare slander the Venerable Monk?" Nanquan sprayed water and said, "How much?" The lecturer monk then went out. The Master said, "What a narrow escape!"
