有一座主，辭南泉，泉問：「什麼處去？」對云：「山下去。」泉曰：「第一不得謗王老師。」對云：「爭敢謗和尚。」泉噴水曰：「多少？」座主便出去。師曰：「賴也。」

There was a lecture master who took leave of Nanquan. Nanquan asked: 'Where are you going?' He answered: 'Down the mountain.' Nanquan said: 'Above all, do not slander Teacher Wang.' He answered: 'How would I dare slander the Venerable?' Nanquan spirted water and said: 'How much?' The lecture master then left. The Master said: 'A close escape.'
