1.38

師，一日入僧堂向火，有僧云：「今日好寒。」師曰：「須知有不寒者。」僧云：「誰是不寒者？」師筴火示之。僧云：「莫道無人好。」師拋下火。僧云：「某甲到這裏却不會。」師曰：「日照寒潭明更明。」

One day, the Master entered the monks' hall to warm himself by the fire. A monk said, "Today is very cold." The Master said, "You should know there is that which is not cold." The monk said, "Who is the one who is not cold?" The Master picked up a charcoal ember with tongs and showed it to him. The monk said, "Do not say there is no one." The Master dropped the ember. The monk said, "Coming to this point, I do not understand." The Master said, "The sun shines on the cold pool, clear and ever clearer."
