2.39

又溈山曰：「我百年後，作一頭水牯牛，左脇上書溈山僧某甲一行字。汝道，當見之時，喚作甚麼？」無對。後師代曰：「喚作水牯牛。」

Guishan also said, "A hundred years from now, I will become a water buffalo, with a line of words written on my left flank: 'Monk So-and-so of Guishan.' Tell me, when you see it at that time, what will you call it?" There was no answer. Later, the Master spoke in their place: "Call it a water buffalo."
