示眾云：「任爾橫說竪說，未是宗門苗裔。若據宗門苗裔，是甚熱椀鳴？三乘十二分教說夢，達磨西來說夢。若有老宿開堂為人說法，將利刀殺却百千萬箇，有什麼過？」又云：「將謂合有與麼說話底道理。」

He instructed the assembly, saying: "Though you speak this way and that, you are not yet scions of the school. If based on a scion of the school, what hot-bowl ringing is this? The three vehicles and twelve divisions of the teaching speak of dreams; Bodhidharma coming from the West speaks of dreams. If an old master ascends the hall to expound the Dharma for others, taking a sharp knife and killing hundreds of thousands of them, what fault would there be?" He also said, "You would imagine there ought to be a principle for such talk."
