舉：「湖南報慈垂語云：『我有一句子，遍大地。』僧便問：『如何是遍大地底句？』慈云：『無空缺。』」師云：「不合與麼道。」別云：「何不庵外問。」

[Yunmen] brought up [the following]: "Baoci of Hunan gave a teaching, saying, 'I have a single phrase that pervades the great earth.' A monk then asked, 'What is the phrase that pervades the great earth?' Baoci said, 'Without gap or defect.'" The Master said, "He should not have spoken like that." Giving an alternative, he said, "Why not ask outside the hermitage?"
