舉：「雪峯示眾云：『世界闊一丈，古鏡闊一丈，世界闊一尺，古鏡闊一尺。』玄沙指面前火鑪云：『火鑪闊多少？』峯云：『似古鏡闊。』沙云：『這老漢脚跟未點地在。』後東使拈問僧：『為復古鏡致火鑪與麼大，火鑪致古鏡與麼大？』西院云：『與麼問人也未可在。』」師云：「餿飯泥茶鑪。」

[Yunmen] brought up [the following]: "Xuefeng addressed the assembly, saying, 'If the world is one zhang wide, the ancient mirror is one zhang wide; if the world is one chi wide, the ancient mirror is one chi wide.' Xuansha pointed to the fire stove in front of them and said, 'How wide is the fire stove?' Xuefeng said, 'It is as wide as the ancient mirror.' Xuansha said, 'This old fellow's heels have not yet touched the ground.' Later, an envoy from the east took this up and asked a monk, 'Does the ancient mirror cause the fire stove to be so large, or does the fire stove cause the ancient mirror to be so large?' Xiyuan said, 'Questioning someone like that is still not permissible.'" The Master said, "Spoiled rice plastering a tea stove."
