師或云：「爾若不相當，且向古人建化門中道將一句來；若道不得，向異處道將一句來。作麼生道？」代云：「前來猶是可。」

The Master also said, "If you do not measure up, for now bring forth a phrase from within the ancient masters' gates of teaching; if you cannot speak, bring forth a phrase from a different place. How do you speak?" Answering on their behalf, he said, "The previous was still acceptable."
