因齋時聞鼓聲云：「古人道：『一切聲是佛聲。』喚作佛聲？喚作鼓聲？」代云：「和尚道了也。」又云：「和尚不宜喫麫。」

Hearing the sound of the drum at mealtime, he said, "An ancient master said, 'All sounds are the Buddha's voice.' Do you call it the Buddha's voice, or do you call it the sound of the drum?" Answering on their behalf, he said, "The Upādhyāya has already spoken." He also said, "The Upādhyāya ought not to eat noodles."
