師有時云：「若言即心即佛，權且認奴作郎，生死涅槃恰似斬頭覓活；若說佛說祖，佛意祖意大似將木槵子換却爾眼睛相似。」

The Master sometimes said: "If one says 'the mind itself is Buddha', one is provisionally mistaking a servant for the master; birth and death and nirvāṇa are just like cutting off one's head to seek life. If one speaks of Buddha and speaks of patriarchs, the intention of the Buddha and the intention of the patriarchs are very much like replacing your eyes with soapberries."
