問僧：「甚處來？」僧云：「涅槃堂裏來。」師云：「亡僧還喫飯麼？」僧云：「不喫。」師云：「活人還喫飯麼？」無對。代云：「一杓兩杓。」又云：「欠他一箇餬餅也不得。」又云：「也能秖對。」

He asked a monk, "Where do you come from?" The monk said, "From the Nirvāṇa Hall." The Master said, "Does the deceased monk still eat rice?" The monk said, "He does not eat." The Master said, "Does a living person still eat rice?" There was no answer. Answering on their behalf, he said, "One ladleful, two ladlefuls." He also said, "Owing him even a single sesame cake will not do." He also said, "He could also answer."
