3.110

因鑄鐘歸山齋了，請師打鐘，師打了，大眾打，師問僧：「打鐘圖什麼？」僧云：「喚和尚喫飯。」師不肯，代云：「譬如閑。」又云：「息苦停酸。」

On account of a bell being cast and returned to the mountain, when the midday meal was over, the Master was requested to strike the bell. The Master struck it, and then the assembly struck it. The Master asked a monk, "What is intended by striking the bell?" The monk said, "To call the Upādhyāya to eat rice." The Master did not approve. Answering on their behalf, he said, "Just as if having nothing to do." He also said, "Resting suffering and halting bitterness."
