師一日從方丈出，有僧過拄杖與師，師接得却過與僧，僧無語，師云：「我今日著便。」僧云：「和尚為什麼著便？」師云：「我拾得口喫飯。」

One day, when the Master came out from the abbot's quarters, a monk handed a staff to the Master. The Master took it and handed it back to the monk. The monk was silent. The Master said, "I gained an advantage today." The monk said, "Why did the Upādhyāya gain an advantage?" The Master said, "I picked up a mouth to eat rice."
