師在浙中蘊和尚會裏，一日因喫茶次，舉蘊和尚垂語云：「見聞覺知是法，法離見聞覺知，作麼生？」有傍僧云：「見定如今目前一切見聞覺知是法，法亦不可得。」師拍手一下，蘊乃舉頭，師云：「猶欠一著在。」蘊云：「我到這裏却不會。」

When the Master was in the assembly of Upādhyāya Yun in Zhejiang, one day while drinking tea, he brought up Upādhyāya Yun's directive words: "'Seeing, hearing, perceiving, and knowing are phenomena; phenomena are free from seeing, hearing, perceiving, and knowing.' How about that?" A monk to the side said, "Seeing definitely that right now before the eyes all seeing, hearing, perceiving, and knowing are phenomena, phenomena also cannot be apprehended." The Master clapped his hands once. Yun then raised his head. The Master said, "You are still lacking one move." Yun said, "Arriving here, I, on the contrary, do not understand."
