師在嶺中時，問臥龍和尚：「明己底人還見有己麼？」龍云：「不見有己，始明得己。」又問：「長連床上學得底是第幾機？」龍云：「第二機。」師云：「作麼生是第一機？」龍云：「緊帩草鞋。」

When the Master was in the Ling region, he asked Upādhyāya Wolong, "Does a person who has clarified oneself still see that oneself exists?" Long said, "Not seeing oneself exist, only then can one clarify oneself." He asked again, "What grade of functioning is that which is learned on the long communal bench?" Long said, "The second functioning." The Master said, "What is the first functioning?" Long said, "Tighten your straw sandals firmly."
