師在嶺中時，有僧問：「如何是法身向上事？」師云：「向上與儞道即不難，汝喚什麼作法身？」僧云：「請和尚鑒。」師云：「鑒即且置，作麼生說法身？」僧云：「與麼與麼？」師云：「此是長連床上學得底。我且問儞，法身還解喫飯麼？」僧無語。後有僧舉似梁家庵主，主云：「雲門直得入泥入水。」資福云：「欠一粒也不得，剩一粒也不得。」

When the Master was in the Ling region, a monk asked, "What is the transcendent matter of the dharmakāya?" The Master said, "To speak of transcendence to you is not difficult, but what do you call the dharmakāya?" The monk said, "Please, Upādhyāya, look upon it." The Master said, "Let looking upon it be for the moment; how do you speak of the dharmakāya?" The monk said, "Like this, like this?" The Master said, "This is what was learned on the long communal bench. Let me ask you: Does the dharmakāya know how to eat rice?" The monk had no words. Later a monk brought this up to Master Liangjia of the hermitage. The hermit said, "Yunmen truly entered the mud and entered the water." Zifu said, "Lacking one grain will not do; having one grain in excess will not do."
