3.31

師在僧堂前問僧：「這箇鐘子是什麼物作？」無對。師云：「爾問我。」僧便問，師云：「衲僧作。」代但打鐘一下，云：「摩訶般若波羅蜜。」又云：「眾僧堂前。」

In front of the Monks' Hall, the Master asked a monk, "What kind of thing made this bell?" There was no reply. The Master said, "Ask me." The monk then asked, and the Master said, "A patch-robed monk made it." Answering on his behalf, he just struck the bell once and said, "Mahāprajñāpāramitā." He also said, "In front of the Sangha Hall."
