3.36

問僧：「甚處來？」僧云：「湖南來。」師云：「夏在甚處？」僧云：「湖南。」師云：「開通寺在甚處？」僧云：「不會。」師云：「參堂去。」無對。代云：「喏。」代初語云：「和尚遠問，學人近對。」又云：「纔始新到。」

The Master asked a monk, "Where have you come from?"
The monk said, "I have come from Hunan."
The Master said, "Where did you spend the summer retreat?"
The monk said, "Hunan."
The Master said, "Where is Kaitong Temple?"
The monk said, "I do not understand."
The Master said, "Go to the monks' hall."
There was no reply.
Answering on their behalf, [the Master] said, "Yes."
Answering on behalf of the monk's first statement, he said, "The Upādhyāya asks from afar; this student responds from nearby."
He also said, "I have only just arrived."
