3.43

師因喫茶次，云：「茶作麼生滋味？」僧云：「請和尚鑒。」師云：「鉢盂無底尋常事，面上無鼻笑殺人。」無對。師云：「趁隊噇飯漢。」代云：「秖守是。」又代以茶便潑，又云：「且待某甲點一椀茶。」

While drinking tea, the Master said, "What is the flavor of the tea like?"
The monk said, "Please evaluate it, Upādhyāya."
The Master said, "A bottomless bowl is an ordinary matter; a face without a nose makes one die of laughter."
There was no reply.
The Master said, "You fellow who just follows the herd to gobble down rice!"
Answering on their behalf, [the Master] said, "Only stick to this."
Also, answering on their behalf, he poured out the tea, and also said, "Just wait for me to prepare a bowl of tea."
