3.64

師問僧：「什麼處來？」僧云：「南嶽來。」師云：「我此間不曾與人葛藤，近前來。」僧乃近前，師云：「去。」代云：「念學人遠來。」又云：「今日無彩。」

The Master asked a monk, "Where have you come from?"
The monk said, "I have come from Nanyue."
The Master said, "I never engage in tangled vines with people here; step forward."
The monk then stepped forward.
The Master said, "Go."
Answering on their behalf, [the Master] said, "Pitying this student who has come from afar."
He also said, "Today there is no brilliance."
